Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi is reportedly nearing a switch to Turkish giants Beşiktaş, with the Süper Lig club intensifying its pursuit as the striker’s situation at OGC Nice reaches its endgame.
British media reports claim Beşiktaş have moved to secure Moffi’s services. The 27-year-old is understood to be keen to leave Nice, while the French club are said to be open to approving his departure if an appropriate proposal arrives.
How the chase developed
- Beşiktaş, led by Vincenzo Italiano, shifted focus to the French market after the coach asked for another attacking option in addition to Hyeon-gyu Oh.
- Moffi’s camp is believed to be pushing for a move away from the Côte d’Azur, with the prospect of a faster exit from Nice potentially influencing the final transfer valuation.
- Nice’s motivation to move him on quickly is expected to affect the financial side of any deal, with terms likely to land at a lower level than a long-running negotiation would.
There is also a sporting and personal backdrop to the potential move. Moffi’s standing with parts of the Nice supporters has reportedly worsened, and he is viewed as seeking a fresh start elsewhere. For Beşiktaş, a tie-in could be the presence of another Nigerian in the squad: Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is already at the club, a factor that may help Moffi settle in Istanbul.
While Beşiktaş is the main storyline, Marseille has also been linked as an alternative. The Ligue 1 side has been active in the striker market this summer, with the wider context including reports of Mason Greenwood’s exit. Even so, Marseille’s preferred target is said to be Sevilla’s Akor Adams, and any pursuit of Moffi could be affected by disagreements over transfer fees.
For Moffi, the key priority—regardless of which team he joins—is to return to consistent playing time. Regular minutes are viewed as crucial for his Super Eagles ambitions as they look toward the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Recent form and contract situation
- Moffi spent the second half of last season on loan at FC Porto.
- During that spell, he made 15 competitive appearances, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
- Porto had an option to sign him permanently but did not take it up.
- After the loan, Moffi returned to pre-season preparations with Nice.
Before the Porto loan, Moffi had established himself as one of Ligue 1’s more dangerous attackers after joining Nice from Lorient. He finished as the club’s top scorer in the 2023/24 campaign, but a serious ACL injury interrupted his momentum and changed the trajectory of his season.
On the international stage, Moffi remains connected to the Super Eagles setup. He featured at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after Victor Boniface suffered an injury, and he played a role as Nigeria reached the final.
