According to entertainment commentator Phil Mphela, in December the medical drama series had 1.75 million viewers after it peaked at 2 Million viewers in November. The decline in 300k viewers, has raised eyebrows, and weighing in their two cents, viewers of the show commented and said the show is lacking when it comes to the medical aspect of the storyline.

"They need to invest more in medical research coz so far it is leaking. Even the set doesn't look like a real hospital. Jozi H looked like a hospital and had interesting medical cases and an interesting storyline," wrote @extrawork101.
"It's really not a medical drama. It needs to accurately portray real-life medical cases 80% of the time instead of showing us Dr. Zulu's sexcapades with every nurse in the hospital," wrote @KeletsoMokone.

The show made its debut in October and it is being filmed in Durban. In a statement, Stained Glass Managing Director Pepsi Pokane recently expressed his excitement about the drama being filmed in Durban, "It is an honor to be warmly welcomed into the eFamily. The entire team, production, cast, and crew are incredibly excited to be working on the first-ever medical drama that will be set in KwaZulu-Natal. Durban Gen is a big win for Stained Glass T.V., for the KZN Province, and for the City of eThekwini. We believe that audiences will connect with the show's riveting storylines, exciting characters, and an incredible cast

The show features familiar faces such as Mxolisi "Zulu Boy" Majozi, who plays the fun and enthusiastic paramedic MacGyver, and Bhekisizwe Mahlawe as the confident and charismatic male Nurse, Calvin Gumede.

Lihle Dhlomo who plays Dr. Precious Dlamini, an obstetrician-gynecologist married to Head of Surgery and womanizer Dr.Thabo Dlamini, played by Meshack Mavusoand Nelisiwe Sibiya.

Another show which was recently skating on thin ice with its storyline but has since improved is Uzalo. SABC 1 recently announced a 3-year agreement with stained Glass, the producers of the ever so popular drama series. It is the first time that such a long-term arrangement has been put in place and it represents an unequivocal vote of confidence the channel places in Mzansi’s best-performing soapie by far.

“Uzalo has earned it and its performance speaks for itself. The property has broken a set of records in the industry for a soapie or a long-running drama series. It’s the youngest entry in the SABC stable and it is phenomenal what the property has managed to achieve despite the challenges this year has shown not only in the broadcasting landscape but the country as a whole. ” said Sane Zondi – SABC 1’s Programmes Manager.
