On Sunday, Durbanites joined in to the International Birthday celebrations of the iconic reggae sensation.
The Annual Bob Marley Reggae Music festival and Rasta fair took place at Ushaka Marine World.
Bob Marley was born on 6 February 1945 and died on 11 May 1981 but in those years, with his talent in music, he gained international fame and was loved by many.
The Bob Marley birthday festival was attended by many people who came from all corners of KZN. Most people wore the traditional Rastafarian colours which include red, yellow and green.
Rasta’s also dominated the festival with the smoke of the herbal tree engulfing all corners of the festival.
Free Haine who is the organiser said this was the 7th year since they began hosting Bob Marley birthday celebration.
“ This is our way of paying tribute to Bob Marley, this is an event that puts together people who all loved Bob Marley and enjoy reggae music,” said Free.
The artists who performed included, The mediators Reggae band, Azania, Rastas at work, Sizwe Zakwe and many more.
Free also stressed out the event does not allow people to smoke weed in public.
“I don’t want to address this with the media because it always comes out in a negative way but I can say that we don’t allow smoking of weed,” she said.
Free said this year they hosted one of the most successful tribute concerts with about 2000 people who attended.
“This event is growing each year and 2015 proved to be more successful, the music of Bob Marley continues to influence pop culture and local music,” said Free.
