According to the Daily Voice, Mkontwana died at a friend’s house in Khayelitsha on Tuesday afternoon. He was awarded bail on Thursday, after appearing in court for allegedly exposing himself and requesting oral sex from a colleague while he was live on air.
Mkontwana worked at Cape Town-based station, Radio Zibonele, and also faced other sex-related charges which date back to 2011, when the mothers of two young boys reported him for raping and showing them pornography.
The DJ, however, allegedly predicted on Saturday that he would die soon, because he has suffered from renal failure since 2011 and wasn’t receiving his required daily dialysis during his six-week stay in Pollsmoor Prison, during which he was apparently admitted to Groote Schuur Hospital twice.
His brother, Champion, spoke to the publication, saying: “In the end he could not do anything for himself anymore.
“He had lost function of his arms and legs, couldn’t walk. We even ended up having to carry him to the toilet.
“But we had expected this. On Saturday he told us he could sense the end was coming soon.
“He even asked us to go to Radio Zibonele and enquire about his policies and what would happen in the event of his passing.”
