Akin Omotoso makes a Rom-Com you MUST watch

We were first introduced to Akin Omotoso when the Nigerian actor starred on our favourite local soapie, Generations. After Generations he produced TV shows such as Soul City and A Place Called Home. Omotoso has also produced his own films including the excellent, God is African and Man on Ground and these films have achieved globally.

The intelligent Akin said: “Throughout the years, even though I’ve done a lot of violent and political films, I’ve always wanted to make a love story,” he says. “A lot of my friends will tell you that I’m the cheesiest when it comes to that sort of thing. For instance, the cheesier the love song, the better! Bob Marley’s Guava Jelly and Eagle Eye Cherry’s Save Tonight are two of my favourites.”

Akin’s latest film will be a romantic comedy named Tell Me Sweet Something which will include local cast members such as Nomzamo Mbatha, Maps Maponyane and Thembi Seete.

The general story of the film is that of a bookshop owner and struggling writer (Played by Nomzamo) who falls in love with a model who she feels is very far out of her league (Played by Maps).

AKIN chose for the movie to be shot in Joburg as he believes it’s a suitable venue for romance. “I think that Maboneng and Braamfontein have romantic elements. The point is to show that Johannesburg is actually a romantic city, that it’s beautiful in addition to whatever else it comes with,” he explains.
