During her raise a lot of details about the producer-DJ were revealed. The first one was
the matter of her parentage as it was revealed that DBN Gogo was the daughter of politician and former Minister of Energy Jeff Radebe and fellow ANC veteran Thuthukile Skweyiya.
When it was first revealed, much of the surprise was
based on the fact that the Khuza Gogo hitmaker did not publicise the fact. Moreover, the biggest surprise was based on the fact that DBN Gogo seemed to suggest that Rabebe was not an active father as she is closer to her mother. But in her recent interview the producer-DJ was more forthcoming about her relationship with her father.
DBN Gogo speaks on current status with dad, Jeff Radebe
DBN Gogo has long been lauded for raising up the ranks to become of the most commercially successful Amapiano artists without using her name as the child of politicians Jeff Radebe and Thuthukile Skweyiya to do so. While the producer-DJ has shared how close she is to her mother, she has never shared the status of her relationship with her father. A fact which changed during her interview on
Kaya 959 Breakfast with Dineo and Sol.
Speaking on her current relationship with her father, Mandisa aka DBN Gogo explained that:
“I always say that a lot of people that were in exile have a lot of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder).”
Going on to add that:
“So coming back to a family structure, and also my parents separated anyways. So, it happens that it wasn’t easy. But he has been there as much as he can. But, like, he was super busy. Like, super, super busy. I think only now we’ve been having more time to reconnect and rekindle (our relationship).”
The interview comes off the back of DBN Gogo currently on the promotional trail for her debut official album release titled What’s Real. The album is 12 track album which has been lauded on social media since its release on Friday, 25 November 2022.
Following the official availability of the album, fans of DBN Gogo and Amapiano alike having been flooding the timeline with their favourite listens.
But one of the biggest surprises was the fact that the album did not feature
DBN Gogo’s current bea and fellow Amapiano household name Focalistic.
A fact when confronted about, DBN Gogo did seem to suggest that due to the fact that Focalisitc was also working on his album
Ghetto Gospel at the time, they could not work together on a track for her album. But she did suggest that Foca might make an appearance during the release of the deluxe version of her debut album. As to when this might be, well, that is still unconfirmed.
