The success of the Amapiano genre has become a global phenomenon that continues to break waves throughout the world and its leading lady, DBN Gogo, is one of the driving forces behind this success.
The “Khuza Gogo” hitmaker has been booking non-stop international gigs since she first broke out in the local DJing and entertainment scene, and her stardom does not seem to be backing down anytime soon. She has performed at some of the biggest stages across Africa, Europe, and America including Boiler Room in both London and South Africa, AfroPunk, AMA festival in Ghana, and Tribes Festival in Paradiso, Amsterdam.
Last night she was announced as one of the major headliners for Coachella's Heineken House beer garden alongside South Africa’s most booked DJ duo, the Major League DJs, with other big names including American superstars Thundercat and Flying Lotus in the same line-up.
Mandisa Radebe, popularly known as DBN Gogo will be headlining the final day of the second weekend of Coachella on Sunday, 24 April, and aims to continue pushing Amapiano to the world stage.
DBN Gogo and the Major League DJs will become additions to a very small list of fellow South African artists who’ve performed at Coachella made up of DJ Black Coffee and Moonchild Sanelly.
The highly anticipated Coachella Festival takes place in California every year, and it's the most successful and popular music festival in the world, featuring upcoming and established musical artists as well as reunited groups. Each year, Coachella attracts music and art enthusiasts from all over the world to watch and enjoy the hottest acts in music for two weekends in the desert.
Although this year’s Heineken House beer garden predominantly features Hip Hop and Trap artists, DBN Gogo and the Major League DJs are some of the event’s main pull factors, proving that indeed the genre is bigger than South Africa and Africa alone.
Fans on Twitter went on to congratulate and made DNB Gogo trend sharing their love and support with many claiming that she is the best DJ in the country right now as she continues to prove that statement correct. Some were also commending the Amapiano genre on its continued success and for making it to Coachella Fest stages.
She humbly shared her excitement about bagging this major gig and tweeted “Pushing Piano at Coachella'' while engaging her loyal fans and followers with retweets and replies.
Her success as a DJ and producer grew from her tenure as a resident on the Channel O Lockdown House Party to viewers seeing her produce evergreen hits of her own such as “Dakiwe” alongside Lady Du to “Possible” with Musa Keys and Dinho — fans are certainly not worried to see her represent AmaPiano and South African music at large on international stages.
Additionally, other artists performing on the Heineken House stages during both weekends this year include Black Noise, DJ BlackPower, Muneki, and Tsugu among a few others. Check out the full lineup below and share your thoughts about the Heineken House at Coachella with us on Social Media.
