The couple, which coined the portmanteau Somhale, wed in September 2019 in a traditional wedding that would easily contend for wedding of the year. In January 2020, the couple had their dreamy white wedding, which, like the traditional wedding, was star-studded and luxurious.
Months later, however, the rumour mill was plagued with stories about a looming divorce. It didn't help that social media had, prior to the pair getting married, painted Mohale with the "gold digger" brush. Many were of the view that the businessman and actor was only after Somizi's riches and was using him as a ladder to make it in life.
Things escalated from there between the couple when it was reported that they were set to divorce and had already separated. Mohale was alleged to have been cheating on Somizi with a married businessman who was also a friend to Somizi.
“The guy is married to a woman and has kids. That is why Somizi did not come out about this because he wanted to be sensitive to protect the guy’s young children. The guy is also financially powerful, so he doesn’t want to drag his name and reputation,” a source had told City Press.
All of this fuelled rumours of a love triangle between the couple and Somzi's best friend and singer Vusi Nova. After spending his birthday and New Years Eve with Vusi Nova and Mohale apparently going MIA (Missing In Action), people were convinced that there truly was trouble in paradise.
Drama then ensued between the City Press journalist responsible for the cheating and divorce rumour article after the article was published. The Idols judge was fuming and wanted to know why the journalist was driving a false narrative about his marriage. He also wanted to know why people were so invested in his love life; especially during the festive season when they should be enjoying their time with their loved ones.
The divorce rumours continued making headlines when both Somizi and Mohale were seen in several social media posts without their wedding rings. Fans also noticed that the two personalities had removed each other's surnames from their social media display names. All of this, coupled with the many social media videos Somizi was sharing without Mohale, but Vusi Nova instead, was enough for people to believe that the Living The Dream With Somizi reality star had found comfort in the arms of the 'Thandiwe' hitmaker.
Finally, however, Somhale fans can speak of facts and not rumours because Mohale has decided to break his silence about the state of his marriage to Somizi.
In an interview with The Citizen, the Rockville season 5 actor who plays the role of Zamani, stated that he will not be divorcing his husband. The actor admitted that things between them are rocky right now, but also added that this is how relationshipes are sometimes.
"I am not getting a divorce. People are saying I am getting a divorce, where guys? Marriages go through some things, ups and downs. So people take what they see and they run with it. There was just a phase like any other couple, we are not getting a divorce. Things are okay," Mohale was quoted as saying.
