Celebrities Mourn The Late Quiteria Of Quiteria And George
Condolences and heartfelt messages of comfort have been shared on social media following an announcement of the unforeseen passing of celebrity designer Quiteria Kekana by family on Sunday, 17 April 2022. The former half of Quiteria and George, and creative director at Lord Quiteria battled cancer since 2021 and sadly, lost at his home in Melville last Sunday and a few fans and supporters and celebrity clients have been sharing their Quiteria Atelier fashion moments.

The high fashion designer gained popularity and has dressed from Pearl Thusi, Enhle Mbali, Dineo Langa, and recently Makhadzi. He is also part of the creative team behind the famous green dress Beyonce wore in one of her Global Citizen performances in Johannesburg in 2018.
A few celebrity friends Quiteria styled and adorned in his designs started pouring their emotions, sharing their fashion moments with the creative and reflecting on his talent. These include actress and Gomora’s Katlego Danke and musician Makhadzi and here’s what they shared about the designer.

Katlego Danke

Katlego recently honored the life of Quiteria in a nostalgic Instagram post where she highlighted the designer’s passion for his craft, and resilience during his battle with cancer. She wrote the caption, “Not sure how much loss my heart can still take this year… Q your talent was God-sent. You understood my style and needs without me saying anything at all.”

The caption continued to read with the actress commending Quiteria for fighting cancer and pushing even under compromised health conditions. “ I remember all the times you’d work in excruciating pain through long unbearable hours but with the dedication and passion of one obsessed with perfection and an undying love for your craft. The world has lost so much because of your death. Thank you for reminding me of excellence. Of passion. Of drive. Of wanting the absolute best for all those around you and pushing them to their destinies. You will forever live in exuberant style in our hearts. Death be not proud.”

Makhadzi

Songstress Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona affectionately known by Makhadzi also shared her loss in Quiteria, reflecting on moments the designer helped her out of dark times and hopelessness. They formed their friendship at the peak of Makhadzi’s career, also a time when the singer was receiving a lot of hate for her sense of style from social media and industry fashion police. She quoted a conversation she had with the designer ahead of their first appointment in an Instagram post, “I called you because of I work with queens and I want you to own your throne, how are you going to own your throne crying for things that you can not change. I want everyone who took you for granted to know that you are a queen, but you lack a designer, allow me to be your stylist.”

She shares that she met the designer during a period when she had confidence struggles and dealing with imposter syndrome and how he would encourage and motivate her to be more confident. “I remember 2019 I was broken, a lot was happening in my life, and I lost lots of things including my relationship. You sent me a DM to come to your workshop so we can start working together, when I arrived at your workshop there were a lot of celebrity people, and I remained in my car waiting for people to go, just because I thought people will judge me and maybe can see on my face that I am going through a lot.”
The 38-year-old designer will be laid to rest tomorrow, 22 April 2022 and the Kekana family has since shared their gratitude for the support and want to maintain and mourn in privacy.
