The news came as a shock to many in the industry. As far as we at ZAlebs can understand, the show was called off by promoters after their funders pulled the plug on capital at the last minute. Promoters Nu Wave Entertainment said in a statement,
“In the light of the funding issues met by us as organisers, NuWave Entertainment has reluctantly decided to cancel the Durban Rick Ross Block Party. This decision was made following full consultation with all the relevant partners who are aware that the event is not going ahead at this time. We sincerely regret the disappointment and disruption caused to individuals who were looking forward to seeing US rapper Rick Ross and all local musicians,”
Fans on social media were bemused by the news:

According to the official correspondence, Sunday's Rick Ross Block Party concert in East London is still scheduled to go ahead as gates at Buffalo Park open at 12 PM. ZAlebs has also learned that a new concert date for Rick Ross has been added to his tour. The rapper will be performing at the Mmabatho Stadium on Tuesday, 24 December.
Insiders are said to be disgruntled with the nature of the cancellation. A ZAlebs source confirms that they were informed of Nu Wave's financial issues on Friday afternoon - leaving suppliers with little to no time to make alternative arrangements.
