The SABC's Ukhozi FM, Song Of The Year will be officially announced this Friday. The public broadcaster confirmed in a statement. The announcement was supposed to take place on 31 December 2019, but the campaign was brought to an abrupt halt by a court interdict, through an application brought against the SABC.

The court application was subsequently withdrawn in January 2020. Following the abandoned court application, the SABC said: "It was important for Ukhozi FM to honour our trusted brand amongst listeners, by delivering on the promise to announce the results, as has been done for decades."

This coming Friday, the station will create a New Year’s Eve edition of the Song Of The Year announcement, with the actual Top 10 songs, as voted for by listeners and audited by external auditors.

The special programme will be hosted on the afternoon drive show, hosted by Ukhozi FM's presenters Tshatha and Selby, who were the crossover hosts on the 31st of December 2019.

The public broadcaster said listeners, can look forward to exciting giveaways, as the station builds up to the most anticipated announcement of 2020. The winning entry, as voted for by Ukhozi FM listeners is set to receive R50 000; the runner up will receive R30 000 and the third-place recipient will receive R20 000.

The winning artist will also get bragging rights for the rest of the year and the title of having the top song on Ukhozi FM for 2019, will forever be written in Ukhozi FM's history books.

Listeners of the station have also reacted to the news with mixed reactions.

So you can now prepare to usher into 2020 again, with Ukhozi in style.
