On the 27th of April, South Africans celebrate Freedom Day. The day commemorates the first post-apartheid national elections which were held on this day in 1994 where anyone could vote regardless of race.

Over the years, we have seen many celebrities celebrate this day in their own way, some post heartfelt messages, others make music, and however, they decide to celebrate, it is completely up to them to express themselves in a way they want.

Somizi is one of those celebrities who go all out for every single occasion. The media personality who has been in the entertainment industry for more than 40 years is mostly known for his talent as well as his over-the-top nature.

The openly gay superstar broke the internet when he shared his outfit of the day. Taking to Instagram, he shared his black and white Maxhosa outfit and fans are living for it.

Over the years, we have watched Somizi live his life proudly. He has never been ashamed to express who he truly is and that makes him an inspiration for many people in South Africa and Africa as a whole.

Somizi is not afraid to express his freedom, in 2017, he caused international headlines when he walked out of a church when the pastor was making anti-gay remarks.

Taking to Instagram, Somizi posted a video after he walked out of the sermon and stated that he wasn't going to sit there and be offended.

“This is who I am. I am a gay man. Get it straight into your skull. My soul is alright with my God. Let me deal with my God and my soul. Don’t tell me.”
