Rugby is a global sport that is enjoyed by millions across the world, in fact there is a saying that goes like ‘Saturdays are for rugby’. The cheering crowds, the hardcore fans, the intense tackles, the war cries, and the boys in tight shorts are some of the few reasons we enjoy the game. We decided to compile a list of the best rugby players to have graced the game.

Collins Injera

For close to over 15 years, fans have cheered Collins Injera’s name from the stands and he has wowed millions across the world with his skills. By accident, Injera started playing rugby while still in high school and has never looked back since. He has played for the Kenyan team in multiple international games and in 2009 helped Kenya reach the semi-finals of the Rugby World Cup With 271 tries under his belt, the rugby player currently holds the second place for number of tries scored in the World Rugby Sevens Series.

Humphrey Kayange

Just like his brother, Collins Injera, Humphrey has also made a name for himself in the rugby history books. The former team captain has played for the Kenya National Sevens side on numerous occasions with multiple wins under his belt. He also currently serves as a member of the International Olympic Committee and holds a degree in Biochemistry.

Andrew Amonde

Andrew is considered as one of the greatest rugby players to grace the game. He has captained Kenya in both the 2016 and 2021 Olympic games and in 2016 led the Kenya Sevens at the 2016 Singapore Sevens where they walked away as champions.

Although the former captain is a natural on the rugby field, he started off his sporting career playing basketball and handball. In 2021 at the tender age of 37, Andrew decided to hang up his boots and retire from the sport and he is currently focused on personal projects.

Billy Odhiambo

Last but definitely not least is Billy ‘The Kid’ Odhiambo. Just like the other legends on the list Billy started playing while still in high school. He was scouted and went on to receive a scholarship where he perfected his craft and in 2012 - 2013 Billy was recognized as the highest try scorer in the Kenya Cup league.

Let us know who else deserves to be on this list.
