The 2017 Feather Awards nominees

Earlier today, the who’s who of SA’s LGBTI community as well as their friends and supporters converged upon Con Hill in Johannesburg to recap the 2017 journey that The Feathers have been on in the lead up to yet another glittering awards ceremony.

The nominee announcement for the 9th annual Feather Awards was also made today and a few names are noticeably absent from the list, presumably to shine a light on someone other than the usuals for once...

Khanya Mkangisa and Lumko Johnson will return as hosts for the main event and based on all the spice they delivered last year, we are SO ready. In fact, Mkangisa did a stellar job as host last year after she stepped in for Lerato Kganyago who dropped the feathers a week before the main event due to scheduling conflicts.

She and Bonang Matheba are currently tied for the 24-hours-to-prepare-to-host-a-live awards show crown.

The Feathers in conjunction with The Other Foundation, also do a lot of work for the LGBTI community all year round. Said work includes road shows and vital public dialogues

They are supported by many organizations, including Gauteng’s official tourism body, Visit Gauteng who will be returning to partner with The Feathers again this year.

This year’s ceremony is set to go down on the 9th of November 2017 in Midrand.

UPDATE:

According to Sowetan Live, Zodwa refused to be photographed with Skolopad because she is being "cautious about her brand."

“I don’t mean to be rude or what but I am just cautious about my brand. I love Skolopad and she knows that, but I am sorry I can never take a photo with her, especially for media.”

When asked how she feels about Zoadwa's statement, Skolopad said that there was nothing wrong with it and insists that they are on good terms.
