Joining an already long list of award-winning stars, Mbuli will play Nandi, and will star alongside fellow familiar and celebrated faces, including SAFTA winner Bongile Mantsai (Mzansi Magic’s Grootboom & Sons,); iconic Isibaya star Thembi Nyandeni; The River’s Tsholo Mashishi; and Isithembiso and Lingashoni’s Chichi Letswalo.
Reprising their lead roles for season 2 will be award winners Florence Masebe (as President Mulaudzi) and Masasa Mbangeni (as Bridget). Two new young leads also join the show: Lemogang Tsipa (Isithembiso) who plays Sizwe and Noxolo Dlamini (Isibaya) plays Thina.
Season 2 of the award-winning political thriller The Republic follows the aftermath of season 1 – the kidnapping of President Mulaudzi and a coup attempt amidst a genuine citizen unrest. Mulaudzi might have cleaned up her cabinet (or has she?) but the country is still in a state of chaos , with protests, riots and power outages being the norm. How will she fix it, and who will stand in her way?
Another dramatic show that’s been a hit with viewers, Mzali Wam’ returns, following the shocking first season which dealt with a kidnapping plot, human trafficking, familial ties and the love of two mothers for one child.
In season 2 of Mzali Wam’, Ntokozo and Joyce return home to start their new lives as mother and daughter. While they do receive a warm welcome, does this signal happily ever after?

“We’re starting off the new year with the return of two of our most-loved dramas. It’s also fantastic that both these shows have female leads at the forefront. It’s important for us a Mzansi Magic to give our viewers content that they love while still remaining relevant and portraying the matters that affect our viewers’ lives in a realistic and truthful manner,” says Shirley Adonisi, newly appointed Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.
January 2022 is gearing up to be an exciting and deliciously dramatic month for Mzansi Magic viewers. Tune into The Republic on Sundays at 20:00 from 2 January, and Mzali Wam’ on Mondays at 20:00 from 3 January on DStv Channel 161.
