Many of us might remember her as Minky from Yizo Yizo but that young woman is all grown up. From living in two opposite sides of the world ,getting married and still killing it behind the camera, Mrs Masina is ready for those international awards.
Bubu Mazibuko is not only an award winning actress but she is a casting director too. From starring on Yizo Yizo and shining as Thuli on Gaz'lam, her acting showreel just kept getting longer and longer. In 2006, the 41 year old was nominated in the category Best Supporting Actress at the inaugural SAFTA Awards, and even though she didn't take that award home that night, that didn't stop her from putting her best foot forward and continue doing what she loves.
For a woman who has done so much in her career, Bubu still feels like this is just the beginning. It's only normal for a well-oiled machine like Bubu who feels like she hasn't done much but truth be told, Bubu is definitely on our list of actresses we watched grow up on our screens. One of Bubu's biggest dreams is to not only win an international award but to also see herself working alongside her fellow international counterparts.

In her latest offering My Zulu Wedding which includes a star-studded cast such as the likes of Kelly Khumalo, Lorcia Cooper, and even DJ Tira to name a few is heading to one of the most prestigious international film festivals in the world.
The film will showcase Bubu portraying a character that is not too far off from her real personality.
Her character Sam a very straight talker and if you remember correctly, Minky on Yizo Yizo was never shy to use her words either and this is a character trait she carries with her in her real life.
"I don't know if I should call it a blessing or a curse but like Sam, I too am a straight shooter and that tends to get me into trouble a lot." she said.

In the film, Bubu got to work alongside a very diverse group of people which made work not seem so much like work.
"I really enjoyed working with people who I never thought were actors but it all worked out on set, I enjoyed watching DJ Tira experiment with his acting talent and Kelly Khumalo always brightened the day because she is very hilarious."

Last year Bubu married someone who she calls her best friend Langa Masina and just a week after their wedding the actress jetted off to the United States where she resumed work. Not long after that, her husband joined her and though he didn't stay with her all the time, he always visited whenever he could. Traveling all the time and always being on call may take a strain on a marriage, especially a new one but this isn't the case for the couple.
"Not much has changed in my career since I've gotten married, I was lucky enough to marry my best friend whom I've known for a very long time and because of that he has had the chance to understand how the industry works and nothing in my marriage has been affected by my work."
It sounds like her and hubby are still enjoying their honeymoon stage and hope to have kids one day. One of Bubu's favorite parts about the film is how much it reminded her of her wedding day. Marrying a Swati man being a Zulu woman only saw two beautiful cultures come together in celebrating the love and union of two people.

Like many other people, Bubu says she owes all that she is to the most powerful woman she has ever known. Her late grandmother and her mother who have played a major role in her life.
"My mother has taught me resilience and I have an emotional strength that I got down from my mother. I wouldn't be the woman that I am If it wasn't for those two women who to me are superwomen."
Bubu is currently shooting a movie titled Johannesburg. It's something different and new and will portray South African film in a different light. Not only is she taking on a role we've never seen her play before, a politician, we can also see her play a mayor in a new series that will air in February 2018 titled the Docket and without giving too much away, Bubu is about to show us how diverse she can be.
