"It is with a heavy heart that RX Venue Management today announces that after 20 years of being the management company of South Africa’s largest multipurpose indoor arena, The Ticketpro Dome has now been sold by the owners, Sasol Pension Fund, to a third party which does not operate in the event space," they wrote on Twitter.

The Dome started operating in 1998 and has housed many international acts such as rappers Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Drake, J. Cole, Rick Ross, Travis Scott, Chance the Rapper, Jay Z, Meek Mill and Post Malone and many others. Other musicians include Pink, Lauren Hill, Kat Perry and the biggest local acts including Black Coffee, Lira and the only man to have completely sold out the entire venue Cassper Nyovest.
With the lockdown in place, there have not been any events since 2020. Owners of the Dome, Sasol Pension Fund, had no choice but to sell the venue and it said they sold it to a company which is not in the events business. In a statement detailing their reason for closure, RX Venue Management said, “This is another devastating blow for the exhibitions, events, and entertainment industry due to Covid-19. The ban on public gatherings has meant that during 2020 and now 2021, the Ticketpro Dome has been unable to operate.”
MD of RX Africa, Carol Weaving told EWN that they are heartbroken over the selling of the venue: “The selling of the Ticketpro Dome, is extremely disappointing and heartbreaking for our industry. The Ticketpro Dome has been home to many international concerts and events in South Africa, and this will undoubtedly leave a huge void. Unfortunately, as we are only the managing company, we were unable to change the outcome of Sasol Pension Fund selling the venue due to force majeure.”

"Today I was wearing the merchandise we launched at The Dome. Didn't know it would be the day they announced such sad news that it would be closed down. Such a sad sad day. I'm not okay man, our industry has lost so much in this pandemic. There will never be another one. Gone!" he said in a separate tweet.
