Connie Chiume is one of the most talented and well renowned veteran actresses in the industry, after sustaining a career in entertainment for forty years, she is still bagging international gigs and is still passionate about her career.
After leaving nursing and resigning as a teacher to pursue a career in acting, Connie says that her passion has and discipline has led her to where she is today. In a recent interview on Trending SA, Connie shared about how she got a role in the upcoming film, Black Panther saying:
“I was called by my agent and they gave us a little script, and the title of the movie was called Motherland and I didn’t know exactly what role I was auditioning for, but the words were there and I could see that’s what was going on so I gave it my best shot, it was only much later when I was cast that I knew that it’s Black Panther”

The actress went on to add that she had mixed emotions when she was cast for the role as she questioned whether they would be distorting the history of people as it was cast in South Africa.
“I was happy but my joy was contained because I was asking myself questions of why are they auditioning in South Africa for this sensitive thing, so I was happy but not quite happy because I was like...are we going to be distorting the history of people here or what?”
Connie who has also played the role of Mamokete on Rhythm City for almost nine years went on to share that she didn’t expect for her character to be written out of the soapie, when asked why she was cast out of the show she simply replied saying "I don't know"
“I don’t know, it doesn’t belong to me, it belongs to the owners of the drama so they decided that Mamokete's character should be written out and Mamokete's character was written out, it’s something that we didn’t expect, even myself because I thought that Mamokete being the women that she is, who is a community worker, who is mothering almost everyone in the community, you would have thought she could stay longer but she didn’t"Although we might not be seeing the veteran on Rhythm City, we still look forward to her debut on Black Panther
and following her journey as an actress as it continues to grow even after forty years.- You might also like: Mamokete' is leaving Rhythm City
