Unleashing a slew of the biggest musical names from the continent, as well as British electronic pop band CLEAN BANDIT on Tuesday 24 May – today the festival announces its second international addition to the #JWxRTD 2022 bill - universally beloved R&B and neo-soul force KEHLANI.
Regarded as one of the leaders of the contemporary R&B garde, Kehlani’s repertoire, at just 27 years-old, is something to marvel at. Receiving her start on American Idol as part of a girl band in 2011, just three years later Kehlani went on to drop their debut solo album SweetSexySavage and subsequently found their way to numerous collaborations with names such as Charlie Puth, Cardi B, Ty Dolla Sign, Eminem, Chance the Rapper, Justin Bieber, Zayne Malik and Musiq Soulchild (to name a few) in the years to follow.
The Oakland native has since released 2 critically acclaimed albums, namely, It Was Good Until It Wasn’t (2020) and mostly recently Blue Water Road (2022), collecting a pair of GRAMMY nominations and consideration from the American Music Awards. Kehlani also boasts shows and tours in 5 continents over their 14 year career. Their upcoming performance at Rocking the Daisies 2022 will mark their first time performing on the African continent.
“We are excited about Kehlani’s presence at this year’s festival because she is a one-of-a-kind talent and an unbelievably spirited performer with an incredible collection of music that resonates with audiences all over the world,” says Steyn Entertainment general manager Shannon Valstar. “But as a progressive company seeking to play our part in moving the world in the direction of love and inclusivity, we are particularly delighted to have secured a headliner that truly advocates for and lives the values that we strive to represent in all of our endeavours.”
Kehlani will be joined at the festival by acts including Clean Bandit, BLXCKIE, DBN GOGO, Will Linley, Sun El Musican, Focalistic, TxC, Sio, Nasty C and Kid Fonque, among others at Rocking the Daisies; as well as a third, fourth and even fifth phase of local and international artists to be announced in the coming weeks.
This year’s Rocking The Daisies will be a two-city tour between Johannesburg and Cape Town over one weekend and the organizer have since urged event supporters and attendees to “Stay tuned to our social pages for more exciting updates.”
