The month of March in South Africa marks the open trading season in terms of radio stations. This is the chance for radio stations to attempt to headhunt talents from other radio stations ahead of the beginning of the “radio year,” which starts in April of every year.

Currently, there has not been much said about which personalities are set to be leaving their respective radio stations. This is except for two radio jocks that have been confirmed that they will not be returning to their timeslots. The first was Moflava, as reported at the time:

Entertainment commentator, Phil Mphela took to his social media to confirm that Metro FM breakfast team helmed by veteran broadcaster MoFlava, and Khutso Tsaledi as the co-host has been axed. The axing of the two comes as their breakfast show has not brought in numbers as it is competing with the likes of Anele and The Breakfast Club and the newly introduced but popular 959 Breakfast with Dineo and Sol.

Therefore, as the announcement was made, not many radio listeners were surprised that MoFlava and Khutso were axed. Allegedly, their axing is meant to make way for the new incoming DJ Sabby and Skhumba duo, who will replace the two.
Another one that has confirmed their exit is none other than long-standing Y.FM personality Bryce “DJ Anhkletap” Clarke.

DJ Ankletap confirms last day of Y.FM

Earlier in the week, it was reported by Phil Mphela that after a 12-year stint as part of the Y.FM team, DJ Ankletap was leaving the radio station. This comes after the radio jock worked his way up the ranks of the radio station from doing the graveyard shift to eventually being afforded the opportunity to host the breakfast show.
Malume, as he is fondly referred to by his fans, then took to his own social media to confirm his exit from Y.FM. However, while the announcement of his exit was early, fans and listeners will have the entire month to bid farewell to the beloved personality.

This is as DJ Amkletap took to his social media to assert that he is staying for the duration of March 2023. Moreover, that his last day as the host of Y.Mornings is only set to end on Friday, 24 March 2023.
As such, the big question now stands as to who will replace Ankletap as the host of the Y.Mornings. A matter which is going to be difficult to figure out. Primarily due to the lack of star power that the radio station has managed to create in the past 10 years.

During its heydays, Y.FM used to be the go-to youth radio station with talents that started on the radio station including the likes of Thomas “Bad Boy T” Msengana, DJ Fresh, Paul “Rude Boy Paul” Mnisi, MacG, MoFlava, and a number of other radio jocks that have gone on to become legends in their own right all starting at Y.FM.

But of late, the radio station has arguably failed to create the same type of radio personalities that have gone on to become household names or sought-after radio personalities. Therefore, with the exit of Ankletap, it will be interesting to find out if the replacement will be able to do the same numbers as him.
