As we approach the new season of Showmax's The Wife, Gaisang K Noge, who plays Dr. Naledi Manstho, opens up about how relatable her character is.

Entering the series as a love interest to one of the Zulu brothers, Qhawe Zulu, Naledi stole his heart from their first encounter.

Speaking to Drum, Gaisang revealed how she first learned about the character and what she had to do before auditioning.

Comparing her two roles including the House Of Zwide role, Gaisang told the publication she relates to Naledi more.

“I like them for different reasons. Naledi is a bit easier to play because I can relate to her, so I am more similar to her. I have gotten to know Mampho quite well because she has existed for over a year now, so I understand her. As a performer, I never judge my characters, but I agree with people, Mampho o stout (naughty). There are times when even I say, ‘aowa mara girl’ (no girl) when she does certain things," she explained.

Speaking on the chemistry between her and Qhawe, Gaisang was quoted saying, “I think Qhawe and Naledi shock each other. He thinks this woman has some nerve blocking his car and not being bothered and that attracts him to her. On the other hand, she sees how charming and consistent he is. It’s cute, but boy stop it.”

She then spoke about Qhawe's character and how he comes off as a stalker but later fall in love with her.

On how she found out about the role, Gaisang said she found out about it while shooting on House Of Zwide. She then crossed-night just to learn the character.

“I was on set shooting when my agent called me about auditioning for this role. After I was done shooting, I went to read up on her as much as I could. I was online until 2 am the following morning. I remember telling my mom that we had to get the hard copy in the morning. I went for a call back twice and the rest is history," she explained. “Reading up on her, I quickly realized that I understood her, and I saw my face when I was reading about her.”

She concluded by saying her character will shock viewers and they should expect anything.

When she first joined the series, in a statement she spoke about the pressure she felt.

“I'm stepping into this role that already exists and people love so much. It's scary. There is a level of pressure because the performers in this story are brilliant, and people love this story so much, so you don't want to let them down.

But the advantage of playing Naledi is that, even in the actual story, she just joined the world out of nowhere. She's an outsider; she has no relations. So I use that energy to my advantage.

I’m not like anyone else; I can’t be like anyone else. All I can do is be Naledi. The only shoes I have to fill are hers. Nobody else. Everybody’s unique and perfect in their own way, so I’m going to hold onto that as my guideline.”
