Another Mzansi artist has taken to social media to urge the public for donations, following her financial woes. According to the Daily Sun, Lusanda Mcinga has come forward to requesting for Mzansi to assist her after battling succumbing to bankruptcy a little over two years ago.
The publication has also reported that a family friend has assisted the very sickly and unwell Mcinga to get the word to the masses, surrounding her financial difficulties. Reportedly, Mcinga is also considering leaving the music industry.
"I have a problem. Ever since we had Covid in 2020, 2021, 2022, I haven't been able to record or get any gigs. I'm now struggling to get food but fortunately my child, Betusile is buying food for me. He is the sole breadwinner and gives me from time to time. But it's getting too much for him. I cannot be his burden" wrote Lusanda Mcinga
Covid 19 really took a toll in many creatives, artists as well as people in general. Mcinga was no exception, as she also suffered a great deal by losing some of her assets including her cars and money.
"All my cars were repossessed during Covid 19. I couldn't pay the bank and they were repossessed. From time to time I get money from friends. Even R200 feels like a million to me, that's how bad things are. My health was also affected and it have never been the same again" said Mcinga
In the video, Mcinga continues to share some of her future plans where her music is concerned. And shares how she is struggling to make it to Johannesburg to record yet her last album before she hangs the microphone.
"However, I need a lot of money to record and I don't have it. I wouldn't want to just disappear without a trace. I am therefore appealing to anyone who can financially assist me. It can be as little as possible but for me it will make a huge difference. I want to go to Joburg to record" said Mcinga
Following Lusanda Mcinga's trending video, her family has subsequently issued a statement expressing their dismay after coming to know about the trending video where their mother was asking for financial assistance without their knowledge.
According to the family spokesperson Mr. S. Ndumbu, they has no knowledge of the trending video being made nor published. It wasn't up until they received a number of calls from friends and strangers informing them that Mama Lusanda Mcinga is asking for donations in order to record her latest album.
"Yes, as the family we are aware that mama Lusanda is struggling as any other local artist post Covid-19 pandemic. We are also aware that as per her wish she wants to raise funds to record her new album to close off her musical career. To that end, as her children we sent proposals to various departments and business people, and at the moment we have had one positive response from Umgalelo Africa while awaiting response from others" read statement
