Here Are The Mall Of Africa Shops

Mall of Africa is South Africa’s fourth largest shopping Mall and first to ever been built in a single phase. The mall has over 130, 000 square metres of retail space, and holds over 300 shops, most of which are leading stores worldwide.

Mall of Africa was put up so it could be the centre of attraction of Waterfall City, a fast growing mixed-use development stationed in Midrand, Gauteng. It is located between Johannesburg and Pretoria so the Mall and Waterfall are easily accessible to most of Gauteng.

Construction of Mall of Africa began in 2012 and was initially planned to open in March 2016, but the dates were changed later to April 2016.

It’s outstanding design is a widely talked about topic. The mall design is evidently inspired by Africa’s geological features as shown by the themes displayed in its various courts.

On top of having a vast selection of both local and international brands, the Mall also boasts exclusively distinguished court areas designed for easy location, shopping navigation, aesthetics, effortless access to stores and visibility.

The Great Lakes Court is situated at the Eastern Section of the mall and stands for the Great Lakes most of which are East African. Calm and gentle materials have been used to care the theme.

At the Northern Section of the mall is the Crystal Court which stands for Southern Africa’s mineral wealth. Sharp geometric patterns have been used to capture the theme. The Desert Court is situated at the Southern Section of the mall and stands for the Sahara Desert of North Africa.

Calm motifs and traditional Berber carpets have been used to capture the theme. At the Western Section of the mall is the Oleum Court in that represents West Africa’s Oil wealth.

The last court is the centre of the shopping mall called the Forest Walk Court. It represents Central Africa and its rich rain forests. Hence , the shops are located in these various courts.

The shopping mall features two main levels of shopping and an additional outdoor restaurant plaza that connects to the Waterfall City Park directly. Mall of Africa houses mainstream tenants such as the  departmental store of Woolworths ,the prominent  hypermarkets Game and Checkers Hyper.

The shopping mall also boasts housing the leading stores in South Africa for international brands such as Cotton On ,H&M and Forever 21. The exceptional step was introducing new brands to South Africa like Starbucks, The Kooples, Mango Man, Boutique Adela, Zara Home, Armani Exchange, Interoptika and Under Armour.

The construction of the mall started In 28th October 2012 and opened to the public on 28th April 2016. It cost R3.5 Billion. It features 50 lifts and elevators and a parking with 6000 bays. 

On it’s grand opening, there was heavy traffic congestion along the N1, N3 highways and most roads heading towards the Midrand area following opening day sales offers by some stores. This drew hundreds of shoppers causing  queues extending up to around the corners of the shops’ entrances. Mall of Africa is owned by 80% Attacq Ltd  and Atterbury Property 20%.
