But the question to answer is; how often do these schemes deliver real-world benefits?
Well, the recent SAFTA nominations have clearly proven that corporate social investment does indeed have a great role to play in the real world.
We’ve recently heard the great news that Mbali Zulu & Charleen Ntsane who are both writers on popular TV Shows – Isithembiso and Isibaya were not only members of teams nominated for the SAFTAs but, they were also graduates of a corporate-sponsored development programme known as the M-Net Magic in Motion Academy.
Mbali’s and Charleen’s stories are interesting case studies into how corporate social investment (CSI) can genuinely help individuals and at the same time pay dividends to the companies that sponsor them.
Prior to her profession as a core member of the Isithembiso writing team and holding a scriptwriting position at the film & television production company – Bomb Shelter, Charlene is a proud alumni of the M-Net Magic in Motion Academy.
The academy which was established in 2015 offers key skills such as: TV and film creation which includes commissioning, scriptwriting, concept creation, producing, directing, cinematography, sound, art direction, editing, post-production, and broadcasting.
Charleen was kind enough to share with us the many opportunities the academy has opened up for her ever since she graduated, here’s what she had to say:
Thanks to the academy, Mbali has also had the pleasure of working on eight films, two of which are currently in post-production. She was also a part of a team that pitched a 13-part series that is due to air on Mzansi Magic soon.
Shout out to CSI programmes such as M-Net Magic in Motion Academy for opening a whole new world for South Africa’s young and talented creators. It is encouraging to see that such programmes are opening up the industry in their own way.
