The actor recently opened up to Sunday World about losing his right leg to the illness. He said that he lived in hell for seven months. "I would sleep on a couch for seven months every night because when I tried to sleep in bed, the pain would be unbearable,” he told the publication.
According to the publication, when he saw a doctor, after proper medical examination, he was told he had gangrene in his leg and that the infection was terrible. The actor continued to share that he was then advised to have his leg amputated because it would affect his kidney or the other leg.
“What surprised the doctors was that although this is caused by high blood and sugar diabetes, I don’t have either. They then suspected that it might be smoking. That is why those who believe in witchcraft would say I have been bewitched. But I go with what medical scientists said, and that is why I quit smoking,” the publication quoted Israel.
Speaking to Daily Sun, he said after his leg amputation in December he did not feel any pain. "I was free and I was fine emotionally and mentally. Physically, the pain I felt in my leg was completely gone"
