The Gomora star recently lost his right leg due to his illness. He told Sunday World that he lived in hell for seven months.

"I would sleep on a couch for seven months every night because when I tried to sleep in bed, the pain would be unbearable,” he told the publication.

He told the publication that he eventually went to see a doctor and after proper medical examination, he was told that he had gangrene in his leg and that there was a terrible infection in it.

The actor continued to share that he was then advised to have his leg amputated because it would affect his kidney or the other leg.

“What surprised the doctors was that although this is caused by high blood and sugar diabetes, I don’t have either. They then suspected that it might be smoking. That is why those who believe in witchcraft would say I have been bewitched. But I go with what medical scientists said, and that is why I quit smoking,” the publication quoted Israel.

The actor also opened up to Sunday World bout his healing progress. He said it did not take him long because he has made peace with his current situation. However, the actor said he falls a lot because his brain has not adapted. "My brain has not accepted that I don’t have my other leg. I would have recovered a long time ago, but because of the falling, it took a bit of time,” he told the publication, also adding that he will be getting his prosthetic leg in three months.

Israel's sudden exit on Mzansi Magic hit telenovela Gomora left many fans in disbelief. Opening up about his exit he previously released a statement confirming that he has been diagnosed with a disease, which severely affected the functioning of his legs making it difficult for him to walk properly and function well on set during the filming.

"It also makes it difficult for me to perform as an artist or throw in those Ghetto Professors' dance moves that you know me for when invited to gigs. The growing demands of my job at Gomora made it difficult for me to give my all to the show due to this illness that effectively rendered me semi-crippled," he stated.

Paying homage to the show and the team Israel said he has always loved the show from its inception, "More so that it set up in my hood Alexandra township," he added.

The star said he appreciates the show producers and fellow actors for their understanding and support.

"I apologise to the multitudes of my fans for my exit and hope you continue to support the show, especially the young crop of actors who are really doing their best to make it exciting. I am currently receiving the best medical treatment, and I am in high spirits having passed what I believe to be the worst stage of my situation."
