South African hip hop artist, K.O, celebrates his 31st birthday today, 13 October 2020. The award-winning musician has his entire career to be thankful for, but has made special mention of the fact that he is merely happy to be alive this year. Joining the likes of Cassper Nyovest, AKA and Enhle Mbali, K.O is amongst the thousands of South Africans who have overcome the COVID-19 virus.

In a tweet shared on his birthday, the rapper stated, “Blessed with another year on God’s green earth! COVID-19 almost took my life in July, it’s clearer now than ever I’m here for a purpose!  October 13 eBaragwanath a baby boy was born... Libra Gang!”.

K.O has been filled with gratitude this week, and it could due to his new lease on life following his encounter with the deadly coronavirus. He took time to on Monday to share his reaffirm his place in the South African music game, as he believes that he constantly undermined or overshadowed. He claims to want to see all of his industry peers thriving and is bothered when his words a changed around to fit another narrative.

He stated, “I always have to work extra hard and over deliver for me to prove my worth outchea, the path I chose I guess since my brand is not based off hype and controversy. The music & entrepreneurship the only things I’m known for and I’m quite content with that. I’m unproblematic so it irks me when ppl try to change the narrative about my contribution to the game. God & those who support me unconditionally are the reason I’m still here! I’ve dealt with hatred my whole career and emerged victorious against it every time! My heart is pure and I truly just wanna see all of us win! If your agenda goes against that the universe has a nice way of humbling you, just know. I will get mines regardless whether they with me/against me. I don’t have to brag; my work does all the bragging for me. Gang!”.

K.O recently opened up and claimed that he has opened more doors to other  rappers than everyone else because he has signed artists to his record labels. The Supa Dupa hitmaker revealed this on Twitter where he posted a video.

K.O also mentioned that he has been in the music industry for the past 14 years. The rapper has been very consistent as he keeps putting out the beats. The rapper is the only rapper in the country that has had the opportunity to have two record labels with the first one being Cash Time records but the record label did not last and eventually folded. This did not discourage K.O who started a second one which is Skhanda World and he signed one artist Loki.

His most recent accolade came when  K.O and Nandi Madida bagged an award at the prestigious South African Music Awards (SAMA26), proving that hard work pays off indeed.
