He took to Instagram to celebrate a year since he released his debut album titled I am The King of Amapiano: Sweet & Dust.
He wrote: “Another special day and milestone for me, Today marks 1year since the release of my debut “ I Am The King of Amapiano: Sweet & Dust “ so we dressed the part to celebrate with all of you.”
The album went double platinum just two months after its release. He later released other projects together with DJ Maphorisa that also did very well including Scorpion Kings Live, Scorpion Kings, The Return of Scorpion Kings, Piano Hub EP, and Pretty Girls Love Amapiano.
Reflecting on their journey, Maphorisa took to Twitter to rub the success of their projects on the faces of those who had previously said he was using Kabza, he said he did not want to show off but he had to do it.
He tweeted: “U said I am using my boy @KabzaDeSmall_ Look wat have we done, I didn’t want to show this, it was too good to be true but fyxk it CAV. When we talk about changing the game with Masters Thanks to all the supporters, we humbled u changing our lives.”
"Haters want it down on platforms. Guys are jealous [of me] saying I am using Kabza. Why all this hate while everyone loves this project? Since Kabza started working with me has he ever missed a gig? So we don't deserve it," he also wrote responding to a tweep who claimed he is overworking Kabza.
Kabza has also won several awards and also scooped many nominations. Last year he won the Favourite DJ AND Favourite Rising Star at DStv Mzansi Viewers' Choice Awards.
This year he scooped six nominations at the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) He is nominated for Album of the Year for his debut album I Am The King of Amapiano: Sweet & Dust, Male Artist of the Year, and Best Amapiano Album for Once Upon A Time in Lockdown, Duo/Group of the Year and Album of the Year for his collaboration with DJ Maphorisa on Scorpion King.
RiSA chief executive Nhlanhla Sibisi said this is a reflection of musicians who made an impact during a global pandemic.
“We are delighted with the caliber of nominees for SAMA27. This is a reflection of the music industry and the movers and shakers who made an impact in 2020/21, a very difficult period in which the industry had to deal with a crippling global pandemic. It was through music that life became bearable and for that, we thank our artists who continue to redefine, reinvent and reimagine their business,” he said on the statement congratulating the nominees.
