YouTuber and reality star, Lasizwe Dambuza began a #R10GoesALongWay campaign where he requested people to donate R10 in an FNB account to help raise funds for the #FeesMustFall WITS students who are struggling to register for 2021 due to unpaid fees from previous years.

The media personality began the campaign over the weekend and has managed to raise over R400k so far thanks to South Africans, celebrities and brands like KFC South Africa. KFC is turning 50 years this years and were so impressed with Dambuza’s course that they deposited R50k towards the #R10GoesALogWay FNB account.

Africa bank Has also pledged R10 000 and 10 laptops.

Lasizwe’s goal is to get to R1 million by Wednesday. 

This started when the police fired rubber bullets and used teargas on a group of Wits University students which resulted in one person being shot dead in the violence.

It has been revealed that the man in question is a 35-year-old man who was shot and killed by police in Braamfontein during the protests. The man had just finished a doctor’s consultation at My Clinic on De Beer Street when he was gunned down.  

The students protested with banners under “Asinamali” (“we don’t have money”) and blocked roads around the university with rubbles on Wednesday which disrupted traffic. It is reported that more than 6k students have been financially snubbed by the university. 

Celebrities and Dambuza’s fans have congratulated him on his campaign and have supported his course by donating R10’s and encouraged everyone else to deposit money into the account:
