At the beginning of March as it marked the beginning of radio’s open trading season ahead of the new radio year-cycle, one of the first major exits by a radio jock that was announced was that of Moeti “Mo Flava” Tsiki. When it was announced, it did not come as a surprise for many radio listeners considering that his show failed to make any kind of impact in the past year, Whether through grabbing headlines or creating content which sparked conversation outside of the show.

Hence it was assumed that Mo Flava was fired. But the radio jock and media personality has since released a joint statement with Metro FM setting the record straight in terms of his departure.

MoFlava will be temporarily replaced by Khutso Tsaledi

In light of the uncertainty surrounding the departure of Mo Flava from Metro FM. It seems that the station and the veteran broadcaster looked to set the record straight. As such, the statement confirmed that MoFlava was not fired, but had made a mutual decision with the station to end his contract.

The reasoning behind this was shared in the statement as it quoted the broadcaster expressing why he made the decision to not comeback as:

“The time has come for me to move on and explore other opportunities. I have spent eight amazing years at METRO FM and I appreciate the opportunity I was given to do top-level radio and touch lives. The METRO FM listeners have a special place in my heart. I am looking forward to exploring new opportunities I have lined up in radio where I will continue to express my talent. I am also excited about TV opportunities on the horizon. I’ll also continue to help young people who want to get into radio broadcasting through radio demo workshops."

Moreover, the statement confirmed that MoFlava will have his last day as the host of Wake Up On Metro FM on Friday, 10 March 2023. Thereafter, his co-host Khutso Tsaledi will hold down the fort until the beginning of April when the new permanent host is announced.
The incoming host and co-host are believed to be DJ Sabby and Skhumba respectively. While the reaction to Sabby hosting the breakfast show has been indifferent at best, it seems that listeners were on the hate train when it comes to Skhumba reportedly joining Metro FM after leaving Kaya 959.

It seems that social media users did not hold back in suggesting that Skhumba was not the perfect hit. So much so that there were some comments that directly attacked even his comedy. This is as there were suggestions that the popular comedian was not funny, despite having an industrious career as a comic and still selling out shows.
DJ Sabby on the other hand is seemingly making 2023 his year. This is as the broadcaster teased getting his own show, first for the personality, on SABC 1. However, details on the format are currently under wraps.
