Like any other major movie, there is always a compilation of tracks from different artists to make an album. For the Coming 2 America film, a handful of our very own South African musicians have been given a spot in the album curated by Def Jam Africa for their 'Rhythms of Zamunda: Music Inspired By Coming 2 America’ album.
Making it on the album is Nasty C for his hit song Black And White featuring Ari Lennox, Prince Kaybee for Fetch Your Life featuring Msaki, Gemini Major and Anatii for their song Loke Loke, Njelic and De Mthuda for their hit collaboration Shesha and Tellaman featuring Sha Sha for Overdue. Making up the 16-track album are also other African artists from the likes of Larry Gaaga, Tekno, Diamond Platnumz and Tiwa Savage, just to name a few.
Making this possible was CEO of Universal Music South Africa and sub-Saharan South Africa, Sipho Dlamini. During his visit to Los Angeles in 2019 he had to get involved in the project one way or the other.
“I started e-mailing and contacting everybody to find out where it was landing. Soon, the team at Def Jam US worked out a collaboration with Def Jam Africa to help curate a whole companion album to the movie’s official soundtrack to showcase a range of African sounds and artists," he told Variety.
Prince Kaybee expressed how proud he is of being featured in the album and noted that the world is watching African music. The world has been watching Prince, he made it as the only artists in SA on former President of the United States Of America, Barack Obama's list of his favourite music of 2020.
Uwrongo boasts a stellar list of collaborators including Shimza, Black Motion and topped off with the soothing vocals of Ami Faku. Together they created a masterpiece and the world has noticed.
Announcing his list of favourite songs to come out this year, Obama said "Here are some of my favorite songs of the year. As usual, I had some valuable consultation from our family music guru, Sasha, to put this together. I hope you find a new song or two to listen to."
