ProVerb is a veteran South African rapper who has been in the music industry for the last two decades. 

He is known for his underground rapping style and unique use of words. His work has attracted different artists from different parts of the world to work with him. 

Here is how he became one of the prominent figures in the media and music industry. 

ProVerb Age


ProVerb was born on the 12th of April 1981. He is 39-years-old. 

ProVerb Early Life


ProVerb was born and raised in Kimberley Northern Cape. His real name is  ‎Tebogo Sidney Thapelo Thekisho. 

He was born to Dr Nomonde Thekisho who is his mother. He has a sister who is an actress named Lerato Mvelase and also a brother Mpho Thekisho.

Sadly, ProVerb lost his mother in 2018.

ProVerb shared the cutest throwback picture of him and his father. He appreciated how his father has been there in his life and helped him become the man that he is today.

ProVerb Education


He began schooling in 1987 and matriculated in 1998 from St. Patrick's College. 

In 2008 he obtained a Certificate in Sound Engineering from the Academy of Sound Engineering. 

He then did a short course on Property Development and Investment at the University of Cape Town. He obtained his certificate in 2019.

ProVerb Relationship 


ProVerb was married to a businesswoman Onalerona Moreo in 2005. The couple was blessed with two children.

However, the relationship did not last as ProVerb confirmed that Onalerona  cheated on him with a Johannesburg businessman called Edwin Sodi.

ProVerb and Onalerona settled for a divorce in 2015 after 10 years of marriage.

He was also involved in a romantic affair in 2015 with model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss South Africa in 2015, Liesl Laurie.

For the longest time, ProVerb & Liesl Laurie were one of Mzansi's favourite celebrity couples. The lovers were together for several years and during the course of their relationship, they served relationship goals, from international vacations to loved-up snaps on the internet, their journey was beautiful to watch.

Unfortunately, ProVerb and Liesl ended their relationship in 2018 because they did not see 'eye to eye'.

Speaking to  Sunday Sun at the time, Liesl is the one who confirmed that the relationship was over. She said,

"Yes, it's true, but please don't write this." 

ProVerb Career


ProVerb is a media mogul who is extremely talented as a host, rapper and a content producer for notable radio stations in the country. 

He has been in the game since 1999 and established himself as a veteran rapper. He is popularly known for the role he has as the host of Idols SA.  

Music

ProVerb started his professional career in 1999 and he was known for busting rhymes and his unique wordplay.

In 2005, he released his debut album titled “Book Of Proverb” under Outrageous Records.

In 2006, he released “Manuscript” under the Gallo Record Company.

ProVerb continued with his journey as one of the giant rappers on the continent and was rated one of the best MC’s in the country. 

Getting the hang of rapping in his style, he released the album Write of Passage in 2009 and Fourthwrite in 2012.

In 2013, ProVerb featured on Khaya Mthethwa's song 'Lil Means A Lot'. The two worked together on the song that received raving reviews from the fans. This song came after Khaya Mthethwa had won the Idols SA competition in 2012.

ProVerb then went on to release 'Hey There Lil Momma' and 'Plaquemine Where You At' in 2014. The rapper did not stop there and he released 'It's over Now' and 'Kings Of The Jungle' the following year.

Radio

ProVerb was the technical producer on Y-FM and he moved to be the technical and content producer on Metro FM.

He worked on the slot Avenue 3 to 6 with Glen Lewis and Unathi. ProVerb had a show with Metro FM, The Pro-File, which took place on Saturdays and Sundays.

ProVerb is also a radio host of Kaya FM's Top 40 and currently a host of a Khaya FM show called The Winner’s Circle.

Television

His television career really took off in 2010, when he became a co-host of Idols SA season 6 with Liezel van der Westhuizen.

He continued working with Liezel but from 2011, he continued as a single host and has been working with the likes of Unathi, and Somizi Mhlongo.

ProVerb Endorsement Deals


In 2018, ProVerb was announced as an official board member of Flight Centre. 

The press release read:

''Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG) South Africa has appointed Tebogo Thekisho, better known as entertainer extraordinaire ProVerb, to its FCM Travel Solutions and FCTG Corporate boards as a non-executive director.'

He also worked with brands such as Volvo, Status Deodorant where he was part of the Status Hustle campaign and Land Rover SA.

In his time in the industry, ProVerb is proud of the work he's done. For that he has received the recognition that he deserves.

ProVerb Philanthropy


Along with celebrities such as Thembisa Mdoda, and Lira, ProVerb visited schools in and around Alexandra and Soweto as part of Clover Krush's #KrushGoodness campaign in 2018. 

They did so with the aim of equipping over 10 000 underprivileged children across the country with brand new school shoes as the new school year begins.

ProVerb Controversy


Nothing is ever new under the sun when it comes to these celebs. 

ProVerb was  accused of stealing an idea from someone in 2018. A girl on Facebook by the name of Mmami Masobe e-mailed ProVerb about an idea she had in mind for a celebrity TV show she’d like to pitch.

ProVerb acknowledged the e-mail and responded accordingly. Later, the woman saw ProVerb tweet about a competition he was a part of.

The woman felt that the competition tweeted by ProVerb was similar to the initial idea she had pitched to them and decided to reach out to him via D.M.

Having been in the game for 15 years in counting, ProVerb continues to be focused on his rap game and being the best at what he does. Today he is considered to be one of the hip hop legends, who elevated the rap game to the impressive level it's at presently.
