"We ask that you please keep us in your prayers. The Kekana family is deeply thankful for all the countless personal messages of love and support received thus far. The details of his memorial and funeral will be confirmed in due course.”
Sunday World has revealed the funeral details for the beloved fashion designer saying his memorial service will take place today, at his store Quiteria Atelier which is in Melville. His burial will take place on Friday, 22 April.
Speaking a little bit about his diagnosis, Quiteria told Sunday World at the time how his family and friends helped him financially. He even explained how he found out that something is not right with him which lead him to seeking medical attention.
Quiteria reportedly noticed some skin patches and inflammation in various parts of his body. Those were coupled with loss of appetite and fatigue as well as confusion. Upon seeking medical attention, Quiteria said he then got diagnosed with multiple myeloma.
He had pleaded with the public to assist him financially and a foundation called Endless Hope Butterfly did what they could to assist. They set up a fund for the designer so that he could receive donations.
At the time, he told the publication that although it was pretty tough, he had loved ones surrounding him, “It has been tough, having to think positively, work on my health and being responsible for the lives of those that I work with and their families. We truly pray for better days,” he said.
He had to seek ways to keep business afloat and that included selling some of his stuff. “Friends have assisted in paying some of my medical bills. I’ve managed to sell some of my belongings to keep the store and studio open until I get better,” he revealed.
He then explained what type of cancer he was diagnosed with.
“Many people know it as the Kahler’s disease, but multiple myeloma is basically cancer that forms in a type of white blood cell called a plasma cell. Cancerous plasma cells accumulate in the bone marrow and crowd the healthy blood cells and produce abnormal proteins that can cause complications,” he was quoted as saying.
Speaking of medical problems, singer Lira suffered a stroke while on tour in Germany. Her performances had to be cut because she is recuperating at home, however she will not be performing any time soon.
