The Reed Dance attracts scores of virgins, giving them the opportunity to learn how to carry themselves and promote sexual abstinence.

Qwabe Twins who were amongst this year's maidens at the ceremony were hailed for preserving their virginity despite being in the entertainment industry. Taking to their Instagram account, they shared a picture of them dressed in stunning traditional dresses.

Viggy told Daily Sun that when they started to attend the Reed Dance, they were doing it for fun but later realized its importance

“We were only `10-years-old when we started attending virginity testing. Our older sister used to do it and we were inspired to join her.” It was a voluntary decision and we are happy we took it. Initially, we were doing it for fun, but as we grew older we realized its importance," said Viggy

"We started attending the Reed Dance at the age of 16. Now both virginity testing and reed dance have become part of our lifestyle," she added.

Virginia told the publication that they do have suitors but they have never had boyfriends due to being swamped up by work.

"The reality is that we do get suitors, but we have decided to stay pure and preserve our virginity. Also, we’ve never had boyfriends because we don’t have time.”

In addition, the twins promote virginity preservation among young women. “I want to encourage young girls that you can be a celebrity and still be a virgin. We are happy to take this route because it protected us.”

Another celeb who opened up about her virginity a couple of years ago is Rorisang Thandekiso. Speaking to Tshisa LIVE she said she made the decision because she is deeply rooted in her faith.

“I made the decision a long time ago. Of course, primarily, it’s my religion and the scripture that guided me, but I am personally convinced. It’s a personal conviction. I have personally decided that that is how I will live my life. I no longer feel the need to defend my decision. I will explain it when there’s a need, but I definitely won’t defend it over and over,” she said.

“I didn’t consciously become a voice for virgins, but I guess it was inevitable because of the space I am in. As a side-effect, I have a lot of young women telling me how I have helped them be more comfortable and confident in choosing to wait until they are married to have sex.”

Lasizwe is another member of South African celebrities who are virgins.

The YouTube star who also identifies as gay revealed in a 2020 tweet that he was saving himself for marriage and that he was looking forward to the day when his husband would finally break his virginity.

A few weeks later, in January 2021, Lasizwe tweeted confirmed that he was still a virgin through his tweet where he said he was ready to lose his virginity to someone's son
