What was set to be a day of sandy summer fun quickly took a turn for the worst when the skies let loose and started pouring on the crowd at the Virgin Mobile x Superbalist Braam Beach Party held at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown this past weekend.

While some party goers gave up and left a little early due to the rain, the rest braved the weather and stayed to watch their faves hit the stage.

The day started off with pretty promising weather and quite an impressive set up at the venue as Melo B Jones, Shekinah, Julian Gomes and DJ Capital (accompanied by drummer Daniel Kudzayi Mhlanga) took to the stage for their respective sets.

By the time AtJazz and Until Until hit the stage, the weather had gotten worse but the crowd still wasn’t as moved by the weather as they were by the beats.

Stilo Magolide must have brought the rain with him because as soon as he hit the stage, it was a full on storm.

Many still stayed in the hope that the rain would let up, even though it didn’t.

King Kotini was so moved by the fans’ dedication that he decided to do an Olympic stage dive into the unrelenting crowd. We just hope he took his chain off for it, we don’t need another Cassper Nyovestand AKA incident.

The King Kotini hype seemed to have convinced people that there was no way they were going to miss p.H, DJ Tira (who brought out Professor) and the Supa Mega himself, AKA.

By the looks of things, none of these acts disappointed the crowd.

You’re probably wondering why an event called ‘Braam Beach Party’ was held in Newtown...

Well, according to a statement released by the organizers, this was due to “recent events in the Braam area – and after consultations with and on advice from the Johannesburg Metro Police and various stakeholders –the decision has been made to move the Superbalist In The City presents the Virgin Mobile Braam Beach Party to Mary Fitzgerald Square, Newtown for #SxITC2016.”

Venue confusion aside, the event was an overall success, thoroughly enjoyed by many. Whether or not the Braam Beach Party will become an annual event is a question that is yet to be answered.
