Following Twitter Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk's decision to do away with blue checkmarks verified accounts. Most celebrities both locally and internationally vouched not to pay the $8.00 to have retain their verified Twitter accounts.
Media personality, actress and now reality TV starThando Thabethe is one of the few Mzansi personalities who still has a verified Twitter account. Even after claiming that she will not be paying to have a verified account, Thabethe is claiming that Elon Musk is actually paying for her account.
Even though Elon Musk claimed to be paying for only three Twitter blue checkmarks account and that is of Lebron James, Stephen King and William Shartner. Other Twitter users who still have their blue checkmarks verification are paying the $8.00 from their own pockets.
When iconic blue checkmarks verification began to disappears two weeks ago when the company fully moved over to its new subscription service called Twitter Blue. Even celebrities with millions of following immediately lost their blue checkmarks.
Last week Thursday, author Stephen King noticed his check mark was still on his account, despite promises from Twitter that all checkmarks would be removed if users aren't paying for the subscription.
"My Twitter account says I've subscribed to Twitter Blue. I haven't. My Twitter account says I've given a phone number. I haven't," King tweeted.
Tweeps started noticing that actually Thando Thabethe still have her blue checkmarks verification, even after she publicly claimed that she won't be paying for the subscription.
