Recording label, Kalawa Jazmee has been producing awesome music post 1994 and we say thank you.
The record label came to being through a merger between Kalawa, formed by Christos, Don Laka, Sebitlo, and Oskido; and Jazmee formed by Jakarumba, Eugene (both members of Kwaito group Trompies), Mutsane, Sibiki and Mofokeng.
The popular recording label has launched music careers of many successful artists including the likes of Bongo Maffin, Mafikizolo, Professor, Thebe and many other talents who have blessed us with summer hits that will be played for decades to come.
We will never forget the sounds of Boom Shaka. The long, thick braids, the boots and the 'leaving nothing to imagination' outfits. Back then Boom Shaka were the leaders of the new school! They challenged the status quo and made their own rules.
Yes, some of us ladies secretly wished we were Lebo and Thembi at some point in our lives.
Whenever I put on my All-Star sneakers, which I'm sure we all love, the dancer in me comes out with songs like Accuse by Alaska playing in the background. We haven't heard something from the group for a while now, we hope they haven't quit the music scene because we want more of their music and dance moves.
In 2013 the group lost one of its member, Les ma-ada, there's four members remaining from the group now.
Ndihamba Nawe by Mafikizolo is the song that made Afro Pop music popular in South Africa, sadly the group of three lost its member Tebogo who was gunned down in 2004. Tebog's passing might've hindered Mafikizolo for a brief moment, but the group came back stronger than ever, winning awards right, left and centre and churning out more hits.
Thank you Kalawa Jazmee for making South Africans dance with your music for over two decades, here's to more hit songs from the stable.
