Actor, television presenter and director Thato Molamu is one of the most respected talents in Mzanzi and after spending many years in entertainment, he has decided to fill the gaps he has always seen in the industry by making a groundbreaking move.
Thato recently launched the first-ever film academy in Gauteng in collaboration with Gateway Media and the South African Creative Industries Incubator. Taking to social media, the star announced that 'The Leaders in Motion Academy' had been launched in Tshwane.
In a recent interview on Trending SA, he spoke about his newly launched Film Academy,“what the school is about is obviously for the township, by the township...our slogan is normalizing access. We’re now giving an opportunity to the black child, we’re now giving them access to things that were said to be impossible, access to cameras, editing suits, space, boardroom - if they want to have meetings, giving them access to computers, if they want to do research, Wi-Fi…we also give you entrepreneurial skills...we’re also building people who can create their own content and own it.”
So, if you’re a filmmaker, or an aspiring one based in the capital city and looking to jump-start your creative career in show business, then this one is for you.
"Leaders in motion is based in Tshwane, and the reason why it’s based in Tshwane is cause for us guys who’ve been in the industry for a very long time, we know that everything is in Johannesburg, so for a kid to travel...it would be very difficult for a child to try and make it in this world," he added.
Leaders in Motion Academy is a 12 months programme that is Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) accredited, in partnership with the University of Pretoria.
