Big Brother Season 3 second runner-up Themba Mabaso popular by his stage name The Ghost dropped his first EP at midnight today alongside DJ Tira whose taken him under his wing since he left the competition reality show. The fan favourite released a three-track project featuring the likes of The Qwabe Twins, Skye Wanda, Prince Bulo and the Makoya, DJ Tira himself. It is a self-titled dance EP released under Afrotainment which he is also signed by.
The Ghost has been having a very good couple of weeks since his eviction at the finale of Big Brother Mzansi, from being dressed by veteran fashion designer David Tlale at the launch of Rich Housewives of Lagos to growing his social media following and fandom in such a short period and now monetizing from his talents and to now finally pursuing his musical career. There certainly is no backing down for the star that is The Ghost.
He first teased that he would be releasing music last week during an Instagram live in studio with DJ Tira and Viggy and Virginia of The Qwabe Twins.
Themba’s fandon who call themselves The Ghost Nation have started downloading and streaming the EP on all streaming platforms with hopes to take him to the top of the charts. It is promising the EP might do well considering their dedication to supporting the reality tv star who is also going to be co-hosting at the Afrotaiment Marquee alongside DJ Tira, Bontle Modiselle, Tbo Touch, and Naak Musiq at the Durban July in two months where he'll perform some if not all the songs in the EP.
Since its release a few hours ago, the hashtag #GHostEP has been dominating the Twitter trends list since the day started with a sum of tweets around it surpassing 41 thousand. The star also had an interview with the biggest stations in the country so far starting with Metro FM’s The Touch Down last week and with Ukhozi FM’s breakfast show this morning. He’s also had his song “Uyangifaka” played by both stations on the day of its debut - a feat not every artist achieves this early in their career.
The fans online have been having amazing reactions proving that the EP is indeed dedicated to music lovers who aren’t shy to share that. A Twitter user who dubs herself “Themba Broly’s Wife” tweeted, “If you haven’t bought the album you got no idea what you are missing.”
Another user who's a supportive fan of the singer shared on Twitter, “I’m on the emotional side of things seeing this happening [The Ghost EP]. We asked everyone to sign Themba from Phori to just about everyone. DJ Tira heard us and took a chance. Y’all have all the three songs in the top 20 [Apple Music] siyabonga. Ghost Nation attack some more.”
Yesterday, the Ghost and Tira also visited Bontle Modisella in her dance studio in downtown Johannesburg for a dance lesson. Bontle is likely to be the choreographer for one of The Ghost’s music videos judging by their chemistry shared in the images they posted on social media.
