Thuso Mbedu has earned the title of only one of only two official South African celebrities. Since her international debut as the lead on Barry Jenkins' Underground Railroad. The actress has only been making boss moves. Currently, South Africans like the rest of the world are anxiously awaiting the release of her first international blockbuster film The Woman King. Mbedu has continued to affirm her Hollywood A-list status as she stunned during The first exclusive premiere of The Woman King at the Toronto International FIlm Festival (Tiff).
Thuso Mbedu stuns at The Woman King premiere
The official press run for The Woman King has officially kicked off. To mark the beginning of the press run, the lead female cast were all the cover girls for the September issue of the leading African-American magazine Essence. A milestone which is set to be celebrated with the release of the roundtable discussion that will see Mbedu crying over her emotional journey to international acclaim.
But the entire cast was at the Tiff as part of their promotional run to promote the film. The film was the headlining film for Friday, 9 September 2022, as the festival rolled out the red carpet ahead of the official film screening premiere of the film at the festival. Mbedu stunned in black, textured off-the-should, body hugging dress.
Other South Africans at The Woman King premiere
While Thuso Mbedu might have been the belle-of-the-ball as this marks her first introduction to film, The Woman King was shot in Cape Town, South Africa, with a couple of prominent South African actors also in the film. The actors were also flown to Toronto to celebrate the official premiere of the film. Included South African actors who were also part of the official premiere include:
Makgotso M
Leading South African actress Makgotso M is part of The Woman King. Her role and details surrounding her involvement have not been shared in detail. A fact, which is not a surprise considering that she is playing a minor supporting role. But the fact that she was at the premiere does suggest that her role is integral to the film.
Siv Ngesi
Siv Ngesi was in need of something monumental and celebratory following sharing the news of his motherβs passing and her burial. Therefore, it was touching to see that the actor and media personality was also part of the official premiere of The Woman King. Ngesi is only one of two male main supporting characters in the film, which does suggest that he will be a prominent feature in the film.
In light of the celebratory night, The Woman King has shared a reel revealing all the happenings ahead of the first official screening of the film. Already, the film has earned quite a buzz, but the reviews from insiders does suggest that the film will have the same effect that Black Panther had during its premiere release.
