Channeling different characters looks like a breeze for Thuso but her latest project was so close to her heart, that she played the character effortlessly. Thuso cannot wait to wow us as Cora in the US film Underground Railroad, but there is more to the character than anybody thought.

One page was not fit for the rising Hollywood star so they gave her two! In her interview, she points out the similarities between her and Cora. Thuso lost both her parents at a young age and she also lost her grandmother in the year 2014. She said all she wanted to do was just be in her own space, something Cora can relate to.

Both Cora and I are without parents. Having lost my mother, and my father, whom I never knew, and eventually losing my grandmother in 2014, it got to a point where I kept to myself, I kept in my head — the same with Cora.

She said bagging a role in Hollywood was a major win for her and for the people of Mzansi, “...This is a great win for [South Africans], which makes me very happy. I come from a place where working in Hollywood is a nice dream to have, not necessarily attainable. Now it feels like nothing is impossible,” she told the publication.

Announcing yet another achievement in her career, Thuso shared a snippet of the interview and wrote, "Here I am as seen on the latest Hollywood Rising Star feature in Elle Magazine. What an amazingly beautiful write-up! Thank you to everyone involved."

Just last week, Thuso graced Vogue Magazine. Also, In January she and Nomzamo Mbatha was listed on Essence as Young Black Hollywood stars to watch in 2021. The list focuses on “Black Hollywood stars that continue to stand up, speak up and make a difference on and off-screen.”

Speaking highly of her, the piece wrote, "There’s no doubt that this young phenom will be a force to headline marquee posters in the near future.”
