Pdot O is one of the best lyricists as far as hip-hop is concerned and has been described by many as underrated.
The wordsmith who did the most last year, releasing his Under the Sun album which saw him talking part of the BET Africa cyphers 2018 and also launching his fashion clothing design-God bless the God blessed.
Besides the success he enjoyed last year, the Soaked In Bleach hitmaker revealed his next album might be his last one in a freestyle he dropped recently, titled Hate To Say. The rapper later explained in detail in an interview with ZAlebs.
Tell us about your latest freestyle, Hate to Say
I did that freestyle as a venting tool and also as a means to sharpen my pen. Rap is like exercise for football player before a big game or training I should say. So the freestyle is training before the new album. The next project entitled Cold Waters is probably my best work and my last; it’s a tug of war at the moment. I love making music and I love my fans but I am tired of the industry, I am tired of industry bullshit, I am tired of fake individuals. I am a pure artist and that’s all I have ever been and the industry is not too accepting of my kind.
You mentioned quitting music a while ago, what has kept you going?
The reason it’s been a tug of war is strictly because of my fans. If it wasn’t for them I would have quit long ago. Just the mention of Cold Waters album being my last I have gotten messages, texts and calls from people begging me not to quit. It’s really heartwarming, so truly it’s a tug of war.
What is your take on the state of Africa's Hip Hop scene?
The state of hip-hop in Africa is fruitful for the talented and far less talented alike. It’s anybody’s game now, which is a gift and a curse in my opinion.
If you ever quit music what would be your next career path?
I studied Drama. I am a professional actor so my focus will fully go into my acting and script writing. I worked briefly on Inkaba, with John Kani and Jacob Crossing. Recently I did a show as a lead in a theatre production with multi award winning Director Aubrey Sekhabi entitled Freedom the musical which is making a return this year for Season two. Writing wise I am currently working on something that’s going to be huge but it’s too early to reveal, I can only say I am working with incredible writers.
How was the experience at BET Africa cyphers where you performed alongside N'Veigh, Ras & Bonafide?
It was a great experience indeed; I really had fun doing it. One of the producers of the show, Garrick hit me up and asked if I would be interested to be part of the BET cyphers and I was game.
