South Africa’s female hip hop industry has started opening up and we have seen more artists flourish in this space however not all on one stage.
Rapper, Gigi LaMayne announced the #TheGigiGangShow which will be an all-women headlined music show. The rapper has brought together fire industry queens to headline the show which include Fifi Cooper, Rouge, Nadia Nakai, Moozlie, Nokwazi and Mpumi.
Those performances will be backed by the supporting acts; Reason, Kwesta, Manu WoldStar, Khuli Chana and guest appearances by Khanyi Mbau and Celeste Ntuli are set to be in the program. The show will take place on the 4th of May at the Elkah Stadium Cricket Oval in Soweto.
The announcement aligned perfectly as it came a few days after International Women's Day. Gigi has always been vocal about transformation in the hip hop space and shared how important this show was for her with Slikouronlife, “It was important for me to do something for the culture and bring women together".
The Bozza rapper is not just stopping there as she also announced that the show will give a platform to undiscovered talent. She has saved 5 spots for up and coming artist to perform alongside some of South Africa’s biggest names.
In a Tweet she shared:
“Slikouronlife and I have partnered to find these 5 dope acts so all you need to do is upload your work onto Twitter, Instagram or Facebook and hashtag #GigiGangShow and get as many retweets/ likes as you can get and you’re on! NB it’s the talent that will weigh more!”
