Afropunk Joburg was already looking exciting, but the annual festival has just added a cherry to the all-black icing by announcing three more acts to this year's lineup. Let's just say, if anybody was on the fence about attending this year's show, the balance has been tipped by two heavyweights and an exciting middle-weight act.
BET Award winners, Sjava and Burna Boy have been added to the roster, adding some much appreciated African swagger to an eclectic lineup. Joining them will be Soweto-based collective, The Kwani Experience who are among Mzansi's most exciting performers and a night that was already jam-packed with talent is now brimming over superstars.
The official Afropunk social media channels have been teasing updates for the last few weeks and on Tuesday morning they confirmed the big news when they announced:
"JOBURG! We told you we had surprises in store! We’re adding Burna Boy, Sjava, The Kwani Experience, Urban Village, Blinky Bill and more to our #AFROPUNKJoburg lineup!"
The three acts join the likes of Masego, Miguel, Goldlink and singer, Solange Knowles on this year's lineup for the third edition of the festival. Solange, in particular, will be drawing audiences after she had to pull out of the first annual Afropunk festival back in 2017 following health complications. The news was announced days before her scheduled performance, although the singer vowed to return.
She stayed true to her word and now makes up a talented roster of international and local talent for this year's show which will be held on the 30th and 31st of December 2019. Joining the internationals will be local stars including Sho Madjozi, Busiswa, Distruction Boyz and more.
The theme of this year's Afropunk Joburg Festival is "We See You" and let's just say we're already making sure our outfits live up to the theme!
