Ayanda Thabethe was born on 18 March 1986 in Kwa-Zulu Natal and raised by a single mother after her parents separated when she was young. 

To raise money to feed her kids, Ayanda Thabethe’s mother, who worked as a nurse also sold dresses and cold drinks to make ends meet and Ayanda helped her. 

She is the fourth born of five girls, none of who is Thando Thabethe. If you were wondering whether Ayanda Thabethe and Thando Thabethe are related, now you know that they aren't. They just happen to share the name Thabethe. 

One of Ayanda's well-known sisters is Lungile Thabethe who studied politics.

Ayanda Thabethe did her secondary education at Sacred Girls High School and then proceeded to the University of Pretoria where she graduated in 2007 with a degree in BCOM Communication management. In 2011, she received an honours degree in marketing from the University of South Africa.

Ayanda Thabethe knew she always wanted to work in entertainment but decided to venture first into the corporate world. 

She started as a personal assistant, a job she did for three months before she worked as a marketing intern and a sales representative at Johson & Johnson. 

After her successful stint here, she joined a smaller pharmaceutical company and was retrenched within a year. 

This opened the door for her to join L’Oreal where she started in the lower position of a junior marketer. Within a year, she was promoted to the brand manager position. 

As all this happened, Ayanda had in mind her aspiration of working in the entertainment industry and as such looked for opportunities that would allow her to make the transition.

During her lunch breaks, she went for auditions and even took leave to pursue modelling and other interests. 

She got into Alushi, Keino amongst other agencies. She also got television gigs and was cast as an extra in shows like Generations and did advertisements among other tv roles. 

One of her advertisements caught the eye of Connie Ferguson who got in touch with her for a role in the first season of Rockville

Unfortunately, she didn’t take it up as L’Oreal refused to release her. This happened a few times and eventually, in 2015, Ayanda left L'Oreal and the corporate life for the entertainment world.

She got in touch with Connie Ferguson and she handed her a role in the fourth season of Rockville where she played the role of Aaliyah. 

Rockville opened other doors for Ayanda. She successfully auditioned for a lifestyle show on BET and was paired with Nandi Madida. 

Hungry to do more, Ayanda Thabethe got in touch with Top Billing and was the host of Top Billing’s lifestyle show. 

In between all these, Ayanda modelled for brands like Legit Fashion Limited and appeared on magazine covers and spreads.

In 2011, Ayanda started her own marketing agency, Buzzworthy.

In 2020, she hosted the 24th South African Styles Awards.
