The damning recording, which according to Bishop Makamu is from 2017, has caused havoc on social media with users calling him out for the "ungodly" behaviour.
To allow for an internal investigation to take place, the revered Bishop has decided to step down from his duties on Moja Love. He hosted the very popular show Rea Tsotella on the channel and after the announcement was made, people welcomed his decision.
The recording, according to many people, sounds as though he is asking for sexual favours from the woman. He repeatedly asks her if she "will give him," and the woman giggles whilst maintaining her decision of not giving him what he is asking for.
Before the recording ends, he also laughs and says "she is boring."
Last night, Moja Love released a statement which announced that he is stepping down from the channel.
"Moja Love has accepted Bishop Makamu's decision to voluntarily step down from the channel pending an internal investigation...On consultation with the channel, Bishop Makamu maintains that he is innocent and says that the recording dates back to 2017,” the statement reads.
“He says the lady in the recording worked for him and their conversation was not sexual in any manner, and it was altered to extort money from him,” the Head Of Channel says.
Bokani Moyo then adds that such incidences are taken very seriously, “As a channel, we take this recording very seriously. We have started with an internal investigation and are reaching out to the lady in the recording to find out the events around the recording."
Moyo also adds that they have a show which focuses on such pastors and bishops, which also reveals their dirty laundry, "On one of our shows, AmaBishop, reveals behind the scenes shenanigans that pastors and bishops engage in and impose on the public. We cannot ignore a recording of this nature where one of our hosts is implicated. We have to establish the facts and truth before Makamu comes back as part of the team.”Speaking to Daily Sun, the Bishop says the recording, as innocent as it is, sounds absolutely wrong but he reckons it was altered to sound as though he is asking for sex. He is almost certain the person who did such wants to extort money from him and damage his reputation.
“I understand that it sounds wrong, but I was just being playful. It kind of went too far, but I’d never ask for sex from any of my employees or congregation,” he said.
“I’d never do such a despicable thing. I love my wife and would never embarrass her by doing what I’m being accused of.”
