WTF? There are Americans who still think like that in 2017?

Usher thought Black Coffee was "too modern" to be African

Speaking to Metro FM's Amon Mokoena and Pearl Modiadie on The Great Escape, Coffee revealed how he lost out on the opportunity to collaborate because the US hitmaker thought his sound was "too modern."

In a video shared by a Twitter user named Pholoho Selebano, Coffee chronicles how he met with Usher's manager while he was in New York recently and that led to a phone call between the two musicians.

The pair spoke and Black Coffee

let him know that he already had a song ready which he sent to Usher. The next day, Usher got back to him and let him know that it would not work out because the song was modern and he wanted something "a bit more African."

"I don't know what Africa is to him but to me it's something different. We're not in the jungle right now" said Coffee.

Before adding that "Africa is a totally different place. For other people, they wanna hear the bongos and the congas in the music and I'm cool to do that but only if it fits."

We're glad that Coffee stood his ground. He didn't get as far as he did by being unAfrican. Maybe Usher needs to come down here and get to know us before he disrespects another one of us like this again.
