We hear a lot of people preaching self-love lately, and honestly, we couldn’t be happier. Loving and accepting yourself first before expecting it from the rest of the world is very important, and it goes a long way.
While some people expect validation from others, some are quickly realising that it all starts from within. So, what is self-love? We looked at what some of our fave celebs have said on the subject.
Zenande Mfenyana
The actress was on Trending SA on Wednesday evening and during the interview, she was asked to share what self-love means to her.
“To wake up every morning and to be like ‘whatever happens today, I love you the person in the mirror that I’m looking at. Before I even get to my mirror I wake up and I’m like ‘thank you for another day that I can breathe, God. Thank you for me, thank you for my life. I’m happy that I’m alive. I’m on your wake-up list today. So, use me for whatever it is that you want to use me for’.”
She added: “I’ve learned to speak to my God first, speak to me first, affirm me first, fill my cup first…”
DJ Zinhle
We’ve learned quite a lot from the musician in the past couple of years. The mother of one has shared insights on healing, forgiveness, self-love and so much.
On the subject of loving yourself, Zinhle wrote in her blog two years ago: “I feel like the idea of self-love has been distorted. Wearing the best clothes, driving a beautiful car, wearing make-up and all the other external things are great but I do not think they are a full expression of self-love. They are just a fraction. A drop in the ocean.”
She said it’s an inside job and we couldn’t agree more. “Self-love is internal. It’s about the internal dialogue you have with yourself every day.”
Boity
When she turned 27 last year, Boity took to Instagram to reveal that she’s the happiest she’s ever been and that she’s in love with herself.
“I am physically, mentally and spiritually content. I am more in love with myself because I finally know my true self.” She also shared that she’s grateful for her journey.
