Muvhango creator Duma Ndlovu and SABC boss Hlaudi Motsoeneng are reportedly at odds over the contracts of the show's stars.

The drama is over an instruction given by Hlaudi that all production companies working with the SABC to give their top actors a three-year contract.

But according to a Sunday World report, Duma has defied the instruction and several of Muvhango’s main actors still only have one-year contracts.

Apparently they are too scared to report the matter to the SABC as they are fearful of Duma, who allegedly “doesn't take criticism lightly” and runs the production with "with an iron fist".

Hlaudi told the publication he was unaware of the situation, but reiterated that his instruction was not negotiable: "Duma can't defy the SABC. There's no way. If you do business with us, you will do what we want you to do as an organisation.”

But according to Muvhango officials, they are not ignoring Hlaudi’s instruction, and are simply waiting for their current contract with the SABC to expire.

"Our current contract with the SABC was signed in August 2014. We could not have signed three-year contracts with our actors when our own three-year contract was already in procession when the verbal promise was made to the actors. It doesn't make legal sense,” Muvhango publicist Amanda Ngudle told the Sunday World.
