Metro FM listeners were surprised to discover that there was no #AskAMan on Monday morning's The Front Row show.

Bonang Matheba, who hosts the show, explained that this was due to Friday's caller, who fooled everyone into thinking that she had lost her child and needed assistance with the funeral

The woman, who asked to remain annonymous, claimed that her boyfriend had left with around R16,000, which was meant to be used for their child's burial.

She told Bonang and her team that the guy was spending the money with his side chick. The story touched many listeners' hearts and some people, including DJ Fresh, offered to help.

However, the whole story was a lie.

The Front Row's programme manager, Tony, explained how they blew the caller's cover. He said people that were trying to help her seemed to be getting different stories.

"It so happened that, I think the gentleman from Avbob wanted to help, he asked for the address of where you can go to the morgue, she gave an address. When he went there there was no body... There was no body, it was in Kimberley, first of all. She said she was in Pretoria." They discovered that there were no records of the child.

Tony explained that he gave the lady a call on Friday afternoon. "She gave me a different name, then she gave me a different story - similar story, but she sort of twisted the words here and there. I told her I'm a listener and I want to help... She then said what they need is money for the food [R50,000]."

He said he offered to buy groceries instead. The woman then dropped the phone and when he tried calling again, she didn't pick up. She wanted to talk via text messages.

The station is currently investigating the matter. Tony added that they're going to be taking more stringent steps to make sure that the stories are legit.

"We are gonna carry on with the feature. It's a great feature."
